HOLY NAME SOCIETY

Twelve months ago on Sunday the Holy Name Society was founded at St. Joseph’s Church, Buckle Street, and the Bev. Father Evans was appointed its spiritual director. The society has proved popular aud successful, doubling its membership within the year. The monthly meetings and general communions during the year were exceptionally well To celebrate the first anniversary, Solemn High Mass , was celebrated at 7.30 a.m. at St. Joseph’s on Sunday, the celebrant being the Rev. Dr. Mcßae, assisted by the Rev. Father Murray, S.M., as deacon and the Rev. Father Keane, S.M., as sub-deacon. The Rev. Father Evans acted as Master of Ceremonies. The music of the Mass was given by St. Joseph’s Choirs and the Sanctuary was specially decorated for the occasion. There was a full muster of members of the society and the church was well filled. The Rev. Dr. Mcßae addressed the members and congratulated them on their magnificent manifestation of faith and their loyalty to the principles of the excellent society of which they were privileged members. The formation of the society had proven a great spiritual aid not only to the members themselves but to the entire congregation, which had been deeply edified by the presence of a large body of men faithful each month to their monthly communion and meeting. He paid a glowing tribute to the zeal and enthusiasm of the Rev. Father Evans, the society’s spiritual director, under whose guiding hand the society had accomplished such splendid work. He trusted that Hie forthcoming vear would be as fruitful ns the year just closed and he wished the. members every blessing. In the evening the church was again well filled for the first anniversary meeting, when Rosary was recited before the Blessed Sacrament and the solemn pledges of membership were renewed by all of the members. The special hvmns of the society were sung by the 400 men present. The Rev. bather Evans addressed them on perseverance. ' Solemn benediction was given by the Rev. Dr. Mcßae, assisted by the Rev. Father Evans as deacon and the Rev. Father Hoben. S.M., as sub-deacon.
