Preparations for the Wellington competitions festival are well in hand, and the duties of secretary have been taken over by Mr. J. McLennan, who is now installed in the new office in Courtenay Place. Mr. J. Culford Bell, of Auckland, has been appointed to adjudicate in the elocution section, and Madame Baird, also of Auckland, who was exceptionally popular with the public last year as the adjudicator in the dancing classes, is again to undertake these duties. Other appointments are to be made in a fexv days. The festival will take place this year from August 23 to September 6, inclusive.
