“A LITTLE AT FAULT”

Dominion Special Service. Wanganui, February 24. That the regulations regarding the rlght-of-wavs and roads seemed a little at fault was the opinion expressed by Mr. J. II Salmon, S.M., to-day in the Wanganui Magistrate’s Court, when William Walter Cummings (Mr. Tustin) was charged with driving- a motor van not having efficient brakes, and with falling to stop and give way to another motor vehicle. , , , • Cummings pleaded guilty to having defective brakes, but said he hail looked out for traffic when coining out of the right-of-way near the post office and was well out tin the road when Joseph Barnes s vehicle struck him. Mr. .Salmon. S.M.. held that Barnes was approaching the post office at a reasonable speed. It was clear that the view of defendant was somewhat obstructed by a parked car in the vicinity. There was always the possibility of a ear being behind, a parked ear. said Mr. Salmon, and an obligation was on the driver of a ear to keep a sharp look-out. In this instance he should have looked to his right until be made sure that tiie road was clonr. For failing to give way defendant was fined £2. and for having defective brakes lie was lined £l.
