MIRAMAR GOLF CLUB

FINANCES READJUSTED INCREASE IN FEES The Miramar Golf Club, at the annual general meeting last evening, made a readjustment of finances to meet increased bind taxation and rates, and decided to mightly increase both entrance fees and subscriptions. While members admitted that the Miramar links was the best golf course in the Dominion, some suggested that a little extra expenditure might be made upon details of upkeep to make it a perfect course. The president (Mr. A. E. Mabin) presided over an attendance of some fifty members.

In moving the adoption of the report and balance-sheet, the club captain (Mr. M.' J. Crombie) said the membership remained about the same, with the 241 ordinary members in the men’s section, and 175 in tlie ladies’ section of the club, and 212 mid-week, country, non-playing and junior members, five life members, and one contributing life member. The club had been faced last year with an increase in expenditure of £220 in land tax and £5BO in rates, and to meet this it was proposed to increase the entrance fees and subscriptions to the club. Each year seemed to bring increased neces sary expenditure, with increased payments for’work on the course. The committee had decided to raise a mortgage of £5150 from the Government Insurance Department, and pay off the whole of the balance of the dub’s debentures. The course had never been in better order. They all regretted that. the Hagen-Kirkwood tour had hud to be cancelled. A radio message had been received that day from Kirkwood. The motion to adopt the report and balance-sheet was seconded by Mr. A. H. Barnett, who congratulated the institution upon the position as disclosed by the report and balance-sheet. The president said the chib was to be congratulated upon its position. He knew of no other .club which had paid interest on its debentures, and had then paid off the debentures. Mr. J. G. Huglies held that more should be . spent upon the course, which was undoubtedly the best course in the Dominion. Mr. H. F. Toogood, a member of the Green Committee, said they recognised that the tees required re-turfing, but the committee had been faced by the bogey of extra taxation, and had to be careful. Too Many Members. . Mr. L. D.. Hurst was of opinion that the club had far too big a membership. The actual playing membership was 266, which was far too many. The result was that the fairways were badly knocked about, particularly in the summer months. Mr. M. Burnett thought more revenue might be secured if entrance fees for competitions were reduced from a shilling to sixpence. , The motion to adopt the report and balance-sheet was carried unanimously. Election of Officers. The election of officers resulted as follows :—Patron, His Excellency the Gov-ernor-General, Lord Bledisloe; president, Air. A. E. Mabin (re-elected) ; vice-presi-dents. Messrs. A. E. Erskine and G. 11. Scott: captain, Mr. M. J. Crombie (reelected) ; committee. Messrs. M. Burnett, ,T. R. E. Bennett, 5. Gambrill, A. Marsden. H. F. Toogood (re-elected), and J. L.
