RIFLE-SHOOTING
OLD NAVALS CLUB • At Trenthnm on Saturday, the Old Navals Club continued its championship shooting at 800 and 900 yards; the shoot also counting for the Hugo Cup. The wind was very tricky, and had to he watched verv carefully. At 800 yards the top score was put on by F. E. Franklyn, 47. It was a pleasure to his clubmates to see him getting back to something like his old form. The scoring at 900 yards was very low. the best being R. Mottrain, 43. The best range totals off the .rifle were: I<. E. Franklyn 88. J. Pitt 84. and R. Mottram SO. The following arc the scores:—
Next. Saturday the club will fire, the final of the Hugo unit Hodder Cups, at 800. 900 and 1000 yards. This shoot will also count for the championship.
The following are the leading scores for the Hugo Cup: Standidge 345. Franklyn 338,' Mcßain 332, and McManus 332. The leaders for'the Hodder Cup are: Standidge 269, Stone 268, and McManus 267. SUBURBS CLUB The Suburbs Club advanced another stage for the championship on Saturday, and fired the first match for the third series. McLean, Hunt, Peat, Goodall and Stewart, the five leaders in the chumship, all crashed, allowing the field to draw closer up. A strong, fresh breeze was coming in from the right that at times lulled the dead-in, giving excelllent chances for brilliant shooting. H. G. Taylor and President Bellingham deserved congratulations on their shoot, and Shreeye, Drake and A. Sherbrooke also did well. The scores are as follow: —■
A. Stewart and R. Drake fired a fiveshot tie over 900 yards to decide the winner of the third prize in No. 2 series. Stewart was the winner, scoring 10 points against Drake’s 8. The club will fire over ranges 800. 9(10 and 1000 yards next Saturday. This mateli will count for the extra series, and not the championship.
