SHEFFIELD SHIELD POOR SCORE BY QUEENSLAND, (Rec, February 2. 5.5 p.m,), Brisbane, February 2, In the Sheffield Shield match agaiust Victoria, Queensland in the first innings made 80 (Benstead 15, Hornibrook 18). Ironmonger took seven wickets for 5 and a’Beckett three for 44. Victoria in the first innings had three wickets down for 82 (Ponsford 15, Hendry 6, Ryder 35 not out) when stumps were drawn. The wicket was sticky after rain. Ryder won the toss, but sent the Queenslanders to the wickets. There was a display of temper by barrackers .when towards the end of the Queenslanders’ innings the Victorians fielded loosely in order to allow the tail-enders to try to bring up the poor score, and much hooting and barracking of the Victorians culminated in a couple of tail-enders deliberately throwing away their wickets.
