-♦ — CANDIDATE SHOOTS .HERSELF Warsaw, January 31. The twenty-two-ycar-old Polish beauty. Irene Wierzblcka, shot herself when she was not elected Miss Poland to represent her country at the orld contest at Rio de Janeiro. The incident has caused a storm o. indignation throughout Poland, where the contest was organised with tremendous publicity, and the candidates were paraded for hours before 11 vaSl- - before the decision. ’’7 511 the jury announced the. winner, the actress Sophia Batraka, there was a cry of anguish in the crowded hal.. Mlle. Wierzblcka dashed out weeping, and was found shot dead in her dressing-room.
