Induction of New Minister. On Tuesday evening the Rev. H.. W. Newell, M.A., was Inducted as minister to the Terrace Congregational Church. The Moderator for New Zealand (R® v - Johnson. A.T.S.) was in the chair, the preacher being Rev. R. C. Roberts, 8.A., 8.D., of Mount Eden, Auckland. The statement of call was read by Mr. Mill, the Invocatory prayer being taken by Rev. C. Wickham ’and the induction prayer by Rev. David Jones, M.A. Mr. Newell recently retired from the headmastershlp of the London Missionary Society’s High School at Coimbatore, Southern India. He has been Identified with the London Missionary Society’s work since 1917, and for two years prior to that was engaged in war work: in the East under the auspices of the Y.M.L.A. After the war he was in charge of the Benares High School of the London Missionary Society up till 1924. when he left Benares to become principal of the Coimbatore school. Salvation Army Note*. Staff-Captain Hayes will take part in Adjutant and Mrs. Sowtotn’s meeting at Constable Street to-morrow morning. In the afternoon he will be at Petone, and In the evening at the Citadel, Vivian Street. Adjutant and Mrs. Sowton, missionary officers on furlough, will speak at the Constable Street Hall to-morrow morning and at night will conduct a meeting at the Vivian Street Citadel. On Monday evening the Adjutant will deliver a lantern lecture at the Citadel. They have a graphic picture to describe of the appalling conditions in the Republic. Adjutant Sowfotn is a son of Commissioner and Mrs. Sowton, and his wife is a New Zealander—a daughter of Lleut.-Colonel and Mrs. Carmichael, who are at present in charge of the Central North Division, with headquarters at Palmerston North. The Territorial Congress will be held in Wellington next month, when meetings and rallies will bo held dally over a period of The Salvation Army was represented at the funeral of Rabbi Van Staveren by Lleut.-Colonel Gunn, Lieut-L'olonel Toomer, and Brigadier Greene. Island Bay Baptist Church. On Sunday last Pastor Student C. B. Boggls preached farewell sermons at the Island Bay Baptist Church. The morning and evening services were largely attended. and in the afternoon a young people’s rally was held, after which a large number sat down to tea. On the following Wednesday a social gathering was held In the school hall. Representatives of the various church organisations bore testimony to the work of Mr. Boggls. during the past three months, and gratefully acknowledged the help given to the young people associated with the Sunday School, Bible classes, and Christian Endeavour societies. On behalf of the Sunday School Mr. Eycrs (secretary) presented Mr. Boggls with a copy of the New Testament, in which was the autograph of each teacher. Mr. J. McßutChon (church treasurer). on behalf of the congregation, handed Mr. Boggls a cheque, In appreciation of his services. In the course of his reply, Mr Boggls made an earnest appeal to the people to be faithful to the charge committed to them to proclaim the Gospel and live the Christian life in the community, During the evening musical items were rendered by Miss Burt. Mrs. Duncan, and Mr. Eycrs. Miss MeHutchon and Mr. J. Duncan presiding at the organ. The meeting concluded with the singing of “Blest Be the Tie,” and the pronouncing of the Benediction, after Which supper was handed round by th'e ladles. Mr. Boggls left on Thursday afternoon for Auckland to continue his studies at the Baptist College, entering on his fourth year.
