UNIQUE VERDICT

$ WHAT CAUSED DEATH? By Telegraph.—Press Association. Christchurch, January 31. That there was no indication as to how he met his death was the verdict returned by Mr. E. D. Mosley, the Coroner, yesterday at the inquest on John James Michael Barrett, aged forty-one, a labourer, who was found dead in bed at his house, 104 Queen Street, Sydenham, on January 12. “It is an impasse as far as the cause of death is concerned,” remarked the Coroner. “It is the first time in my experience of hundreds of inquests that I have had to give a verdict like this.” The police said that the man had been dead some time. When the body was ’found it was impossible to see if there were any marks of violence.
