POLICE SERVICES

QUESTION OF PAYMENT By Telegraph.—Press Association. Palmerston North, January 81. . “The extraneous duties at present placed upon the police by other departments are beyond all reason and they are growing every year; unless we are given the means with which to undertake this extra work it must be shouldered off,” said the Commissioner of Police (Mr. W. B. Mcllveney) in the, course of an interview here to-day. “Some three years ago the Public Accounts Committee, then under the chairmanship of your member, Mr. J. A. Nash, recommended that all departments for which work was done by the police should make suitable pay for these services, but the matter was shelved and nothing has been done. It has not been lost sight of, however, and will be brought up again.”
