IDLE AND DISORDERLY
LABOURER IN TROUBLE. »* Masterton, January 30. James Alexander Driscoll, labourer, aged 49, a native o£ New Zealand, appeared in the Masterton Magistrate’s Court this morning on a charge of being an idle and disorderly person within the meaning of the Police Offences’ Act. in that he had insufficient visible mca.is of support. Sergeant Dyer stated that complaints had been received that accused bad been loitering around the Masterton Park, in which place he was arrested this morning at 6 o’clock by Constable Le Compte. When questioned he admitted having been sleeping, in the park for the past two weeks, stating that he was without money, and was waiting about the town in the hope of securing work. Accused, said the Sergeant, was a man who, when he had money, spent it in drink, and then came back to Masterton, where ho loitered about the park drinking methelated spirits. Accused, who had previously been convicted on a similar charge, pleaded guilty, and was sentenced by the Magistrate to three months’ imprisonment.
