TRADE DISPUTES

PROVISIONS OF BRITISH BILL PROSPECT OF PROVOKING CRISIS <Onlted (‘■Rec. January 80, 11.5 p.m.) London, January 86. The satisfaction in trade union circles at Mr. MacDdhald promising to Introduce a Trades Dispute Bill this session, was tempered by the absence of a pledge to secure the passage as soon as it was recognised that the Government programme was overloaded. The General Council of the Trade Union Congress .made representations to the Premier insisting on the fulfilment of his pledges. It is known that the Bill’s main provisions deal with the political levy, and restore contracting out for contracting in. Liberals as well as Gonservatives are expected to oppose the change. The Government realise that the question might easily provoke a crisis, which it is most anxious to avoid.
