WAIRARAPA PROGRESS LEAGUE
Ari’LICATIONS FOR SECRETARYSHIP. Dominion Special Service. Masterton, January 25. Neatly all contributing local bodies have signified their intention of supporting the Wairarapa Progress League for a further twelve months, and in view of this the committee appointed for the ‘purpose has decided to call for applications for a full-time secretary. There is no doubt, however, that to a considerable extent the success or otherwise of the league will depend on tbe Featherston County Council, one of the bodies which has refused to carry on, and the league committee is hopeful that this body will be induced to reconsider its decision. A motion to give further support is to be considered at the next meeting of the Carterton Borough Council, another body that refused to carry on. It is pointed out that an instance of the league’s value to the. district is contained in tlie recent decision of the Railway Department to .install steam-heated carriages on the Wairarapa railway service, a suggestion that first arose from the Carterton borough, and which was referred to the leiigue for action.
