VICTORY FOR CARN ERA PETERSON KNOCKED OUT IN FIRST ROUND (Rec. January 26, 5.5 p.m.) New York, January 24. Camera, weighing 269 j pounds, defeated Peterson, 209 pounds, in the first round. Camera won by a knock-out almost immediately. Peterson slapped the giant Italian in ’ the fac-e, after which Camera opened up with terrific lefts and dropped Peterson four times. The fourth was the finish. Twenty thousand spectators witnessed the fight. The spectators, who had been hoping that the fight would show some indication of Camera’s actual ability, treated the outcome for the most part as a joke. Peterson did nothing but. bounce up and down from the canvas for a brief time and then remain doWh. However, sports writers indicated their surprise that Peterson withstood as many blows as he did, for the Italian demonstrated that he has terrific power, and showed a speed and agility surprising in one of his weight. Although Anderson (lOst. 11 Jib.), the American middle-weight, showed greatly improved form in his return matcliagainst the Australian champion, Haines (list, lib.).'at Sydney Stadium, he was outclassed. The local man gave a better display, timing his blows well and dodging the American’s wild rushes brilliantly. Anderson was down twice in the third round, and in the sixth was floored four times.' The referee then stopped the fight and gave the decision to Haines.
