OBITUARY
SIR ALFRED ASHBOLT (Rec. January 24, 10.45 p.m.) Hobart, January 24. The death has occurred of Sir Alfred Ashbolt, a prominent Tasmanian, and former Agent-General. He was a native of Christchurch, New Zealand, and was 60 years of age. He has left a widow and a son and daughter. [Sir Alfred Ashbolt was the eldest son of the late Mr. Alfred Ashbolt, who was for many years foreman printer on the “New Zealnd Times,” and well known as a cricket umpire. Sir Alfred was articled as a professional chartered accountant in Wellington, and went to Tasmania in 1892. He was appointed Agent-General for the State in 1919, a position he occupied with distinction for five years. He was largely interested and assisted in all phases of commercial development in Tasmania, and was chairman of directors in various enterprises, as well as a member of the Commonwealth Board of Trade. He married a daughter of Mr. Cecil Walker, of Hobart, in 1919. Sir Alfred had been in bad health for about a year.]
