VISCOUNT ESHER (Rec. January 23, 7 p.m.). London, January -2. Obituary.—Viscount Esher. [Reginald Baliol Brett secondl V s count Esher, was the eldest son of. the first Viscount and was bom m Loudoi in 1852. He was educated at Eton ana Trinity College, Cambridge, and afterwards entered politics, bec °?H” r ߣZt O n RHpretarv to tthe Marquess of Hartington in 1878 From 1880 to 1885 he sat as Liberal member for Penrhyn and Fal mouth, and in the latter y« ar he cessfully contested Plymouth. Mom 189 a to 1902 he was Secretary to the Office of Works. He succeeded his father in 1899. In 1902 he was appointed one of the Commissioners who I ”9U lreil 'L" to the conduct of the South African War, and the following year he was chairman of the War Office Reconstruction Committee. Tn 1905 he became permanent member of the Committee of Imneria Defence Viscount Esher was selected bv King Edward as one of the editors of the late Queen Victoria’s correspondence, which was a delicate and difficult task Tn 1912 Viscount Esher produced “The Girlhood of Queen. Victoria.” and in 1914 “The Influence of King Edward.”]
