RADIO AND JAZZ MUSIC

Sir, —Through your paper I would like to inquire whether anyone could inform me why so much classical music is played from 2YA, and why new jazz tunes are not played more often. What jazz tunes are played are very few and far between, and more often than not are ancient tunes speaking in jazz terms. 3YA, of Christchurch, puts across much more jazz than 2YA, and yet it is said that Christchurch is an old-fashioned town. Some people may reply let jazz enthusiasts listen to Christchurch 3YA, but it is not everyone that can listen to 3YA owing to the fact that they may not have powerful enough sets or else live in a locality ■where there is so much interference'that it is no pleasure to listen to any radio station except the local 2YA.— I am, etc., HAROLD G. FOWNES. Wellington, January 16.
