AUCKLAND HARBOUR MYSTERY

NO TRACE OF MISSING ■ MAN MRS. CUBITT RECOVERING Dominion Special Service: Auckland, January 3. No trace has been found of Mr. J. L. Davies, of Edendale, who, it is believed, was drowned near the eastern tide deflector in the early hours of New Year’s morning. Mrs. Julia Cubitt, who was found in an exhausted condition on the rocks of the deflector, is recovering at Auckland Hospital, but so far has made no statement to the police. The police have ascertained that the woman and the missing man were seen in the City Hotel early on the morning of January 1, when they spoke to people whom they knew. Where they went after that the police do not know. The police are keeping a look-out for the body of Mr. Davies. They believe that if he was drowned near the outer shore end of the. deflector the strong tide would carry the body away into the harbour.
