BRITISH COAL
SUPERIOR QUALITY PROVED SERIES OF TESTS INCREASED OUTPUT (British Official Wireless.) (Rec. January 3, 5.5 p.m.). Rugby, January 2. The superior quality of British coal has been demonstrated by a series of tests instituted by the Canadian Department of Mines. The report states that these tests were carried out on 30 fuels of ifiost varied type, ranging from anthracite to peat The most efficient fuel tested was Welsh anthracite, 8.4 tons of which were ; equal to 10 tons of American anthracite, which was taken as a standard. Scotch semi-anthracite was nearly as good In the week ending December 21 Biitain’s coal mines produced 5,647,200 tons, a quantity which exceeds any week S output since May, 1924. The wageearners employed for the week numbered 949,400.
