BRITISH SAILORS’ SOCIETY
The New Year festivities at the British Sailors’ Society were all that could be desired for the seamen in port. . On Sunday Mr. N. S. Slyfield, of Petone, preached to a fine number.of men. In the afternoon a most seasonable repast was presided over by Mr. and Mrs. R. Brown, and full justice was done to the good things provided. There was a full attendance at the sailors’ song service at 8.30 p.m.' On New Year’s Eve, a social evening was held. Games, etc., were the order of the evening, the men remaining until 11.30 p.m., when they adjourned to the Post. Office to see the New Year in. Before leaving all joined hands and sang Auld Lang Syne. Ou New Year’s Day a fine party set off by motor bus to Maori Bank for the day.. Here a very happy and pleasant time was spent until ; 6 p.m., when all returned to the institute for another social evening. Supper wus served by the youpg ladies, of the society, the men returning to their ships at the conclusion of the evening, tired, sunburnt, but very happy- ■ . - , ~ . The secretary desires, to thank all who helped to make the New Year festivities so pleasant. - '
