WIRTHS’ CIRCUS

WELLINGTON SEASON OPENS TO-NIGHT

Wirths’ Circus will open iu Wellington in the Winter Sli.ow Building, John Street, to-night (Saturday), with a programme that is claimed to easily eclipse all jls prodoeessors. Wirth Brothers have submitted many splendid programmes,, and their enterprising catering for ti(e amusementloving public of New Zealand and Australia will undoubtedly be acknowledged by the public. Wirth Brothers -Have, during their recent tour of the world, engaged such artists ns tho Lias Troupe of Six, who show the yery latest that has been seen In tumbling and balancing, not only on the ground, but on tlie upturned feet of the partners. This troupe performed at the last Olympic Games in Amsterflam, where they all received gold medals presented by .Her Majesty the Queen of Holland, Another balancing act Is the Three Ar-, conas, of which the star performer,. Miss Betty Arconn, is most aptly called "the most fearless woman in tlie world.” At a cost of £5OOO Wirth Brothers havealso bought the greatest performing pure white polar and brown bear act In the world, which is to be seen at every performance., The trapeze act of the Flying La Mars starts where most other performers ',n their line leave off, and thrill after thrill is given the public ns Harry La Mar doos his double and triple somersaults, both forwards and backwards. Then there are Claudia Alba, tho world-famous athlete, and tho Great Mulldoon, who Is now reappearing after an absence of some years in a humorous falling.act. Miss Eileen May, who is said to be the only elephant trainer in tho , Southern Hemisphere, is performing an act with a huge herd of these animals, and Miss Gladys with her beautiful black horse mid also the five white horses, gives the publie a splendid opportunity to see what can be done by continuous practice, patience, kindness and training of these animals. Then there are the Sante.v Duo, and Klnrkoskies. the Russia'n riders, and Mr. Alfred Clarke, performing a pleasant juggling act. on horseback, and Miss Doris and Miss Madeline in another delightful horgc act. Since this circus was last seen here, a number ot additions have been made. In fact, most of tlie performers are making their first appearance in this' part of the world, and Wirth Brothers have spared n<> expense to place their show on such a high standard as it is at present. There is also quite an army of clowns in several-splendid acts, such as little Peter on bls horse, and more conventional acts.

The menagerie, in which there are several new and recently imported animals from all parts of the world, is in itself a liberal education, particularly for tlie children, and this is open from 4 to 5, during which time the animals will be fed. The circus is this year under the personal direction of Messrs. Wirth Brothers. Mr. Philip Wirth, Junr., has taken up the mantle of his father, and holds the position as equestrian director. As ringmaster and trainer, he is the. youngest in the world, being under 20 years ot age. Matinees will bo held each day at 2.30. The box plan is at the Bristol.
