OVERSEAS LEAGUE
A THRIVING INSTITUTION
Mr. Eric Rice, the travelling-secre-tary for the Overseas League, now in Wellington, dwells with enthusiasm on the growth of the league and its club activities in London.
The club (says Mr. Rice) was founded on August 27, 1910. lhe..first building in connection with the league was opened at the General Buildings, Aldwych, on Empire Day, 1914, the “Overseas Magazine” was established, in December, 1915. In October, 1921,' Vernon House, Park Place, St. James Street, was purchased from Dowager Lady Hillingdon, and in February of the succeeding year was opened as the official quarters of the league by the Duke of York. The club was incorporated by Royal Charter in March. 1922. Overseas House (which provides sleeping accommodation for members) was acquired in September, 1923, and Nos. 4 and 5, Park Place, were acquired as club premises for male members of the league In November, 1924, and were opened in March the following year. The league now has premises in London, Paris, Liverpool, Edinburgh, Glasgow, Cape Town, Sydney, Melbourne, New York and Halifax (Nova Scotia).
