SAILORS’ FRIEND SOCIETY
Tlie continuation of the pleasures at the Sailors’ Friend Society during the festive season has afforded much happiness to the men in port. On Sunday Mr Jamon Moore, missioner, preached moinliig and evening, taking for his.subjects: Looking Backward” ahd ‘'The Year s Mediet. In the afternoon a well-wisher •provided a most seasonable spread at tea time, when there were many guests. lhere was; a full attendance at the 7 and b. 30 o clock SL 'on iCl New Year’s Eve seasonable hospitality was extended to the guests. On New Year's I>av a party of men journeyed to Karori Park by special car, and here in glorious weather and surroundings the day was passed in games arranged by MrJ Moore, missioner, who was splendldlj assisted bv his helpers. . The tug-o -war, Lotball and the famous buckjumper “Billy” filled a big place in the bill. Lunch and tea were arranged by Mrs J Moore and her helpers. lhe sports were continued with unabated interest tin 7 p.m. when, after a delightful drive, the partv again went in for games in the spacious institute. Musical items were given by Mr. Beavis and Mr. Silver and at a later hour supper was served. The prize-winners in the day s events were Madames - Morrisey and Syme and Miss Syme, and Messrs. Mather, Daley, Jasper, Oldfield, Jarvis. Salter. McKillop, Stimson, Johnstone, Collins, Young, HlitoThe party was loud in its praise of the verv groat happiness brought into its lite at this festive season. The committee and missioner' desire to thank all who have made the pleasures possible.
