THE ENGLISH LIST MANY WOMEN HONOURED (Rec. January 1, 7.40 p.m.) London, December 31. Amongst the New Year honours are the following knighthoods Professor Granville Bantock, musician. Lieut.-Colonel H. W. G. Cole, Director of the Exhibitions Section, Department of Overseas Trade. Numerous women have been honoured. In addition to Lady Bailey and Miss Maude Royden, they include Miss Rose Rosenberg, Mr. MacDonald’s personal secretary, who has a C.8.E.; Miss Elsie Hughes, secretary to Lord Dawson, M.8.E., for services in the King’s 111Tlie Right Hon. Srinivasl Sastrl has been made a Companion of Honour for his eminent services in Indian affairs. [Professor Bantock has been Professor of Music at Birmingham University since 1908 and Director of the School of Music, Birmingham and Midland Institute since 1900.] THE AUSTRALIAN LIST (Rec. The Nw Year honours include: — K.C.M.G.—Professor John Beverley Peden, Kings Counsel, President of the New South Wales Legislative Council, and Dean of the Faculty, also Challis Professor of Law at the Sydney University. C.M.B. —Mr. Walter David Loveridge, president of the Sydney Harbour Trust. O.B.E.—Miss Sibella MacArthur On- , slow, who belongs to one of the oldest Australian pioneering families. She is a prominent welfare and Red Cross worker. • Brisbane, January 1. The Hon. James Blair, Chief Justice of Queensland, has been created a K.B. Melbourne, January 1. Dr. Stanley. Argyle, who was Chief Secretary in the last Victorian Ministry, has been made a K.B.E. Hobart, January 1. Mr R. Eccles Snowden, Agent-General to the Tasmanian Government in England, has been created a Knight Bachelor.
