MARKED EXPANSION FOR 1929.

By Telegraph.—Press Association. Auckland. January 1.

There was a marked expansion in the Customs revenue collected at the port of Auckland during 1929, in comparison with figures for 1928. This is partly accounted for by the doubling of primage duty as from the beginning of last August. An increase of nearly 50 per cent, in yield from motor spirits duty indicates continued growth in the use of motor vehicles. ■ Customs revenue and tire tax tor December, .1929, totalled £211.372, as compared with £180,443 in 1928. The total for the vear was £2,449.831, as compared with £2,195.320 in 1928. The motor spirit duty for the year was £325,470, as compared witli £226.989 in 19-8.
