RADCLIFFE INFIRMARY

Sir—l am venturing to ask that you will publish this letter because of tlz; very close association which the city and University of Oxford have had had in recent years with a considerable number of men resident in Wellington. During the war the Radcliffe Infirmary in this city formed a part of the Third Southern General Hospital, in which many soldiers from all parts of the Empire were restored to health, ana it would be no exaggeration to say that its influence and organisation, by means of its honorary medical and surgical stans, pervaded the whole network of military hospitals in the Oxford area. Again, the Radcliffe Infirmary is associated with the Medical School of Oxford University, through which have passed so many Rhodes Scholars and other overseas medical students. For these two reasons the committee feel that there may be many people in Wellington who would be glad to help in a great effort which is now being . made to enlarge the hospital and bring it up to date in every respect. „ H.R.H. the Prince of Wales has graciously contributed to the fund, and the president, Sir William R. Morris, Bart., has promised £40,000 to build a new maternity department, and a further sum of £40.000 if the general publ c will subscribe £BO,OOO. re a sum of £43,000 has already been re C ° The district served is a large and comparatively poor one, but the working men and women living in and around Oxford have already supported the appeal mo-t Se in rO conciusion I can only express the hope that this letter may be read by someone who has cause to remember the Radcliffe Infirmary with gratitude and who may be glad to take the opportunity of expressing such grattude by sending a large or small donation to “The Radcliffe Infirmary Extension Fund” at Messrs. Barclay’s Bank Lta., High Street, Oxford. —I am, etc.. W. M. GOODENOUGH,

Hon. Treasurer, Radcliffe Infirmary Extension Fund. Oxford, November 4.
