NEW ELECTRIC WATER HEATER

MR. M. CABLE TO VISIT SYDNEY '

For some months past efforts have been made to introduce into general adoption in New Zealand an electric waterheater of Australian invention. The electrical engineers of the City Corporation here and others elsewhere have reported against the idea on the ground that it calls for a heavy “pull” on the available power in order to produce hot water at once. The system was thought of in Wellington about twenty years ago, but was discarded for the'same reason now objected to, namely, the suddenness of the demand for heavy current.. The apparatus has been in operation in Wellington. In committee at the City Council meeting on Thursday night, Councillor R. McKeen spoke nt length on the subject, and it was decided to send Mr. M. Cable, chief electrical engineer and tramways manager, to Australia to investigate the matter. ■
