CONSPIRACY CHARGE
ARREST OF SYDNEY BUSINESS MEN ALLEGATIONS OF POLICE (Rec. December 20, 7 p.m.) Sydney, December 20. Im connection with the alleged conspiracy case, Morris Abraham Kutner (37 years of age), Daniel Joseph Rogers (65), Albert Munro Cameron (27), Harry Roden (39), auctioneers, Albert Arthur Ellisdon (60), merchant, and Harry Levy (67), broker, were charged with conspiring to defraud such persons as should be induced to give credit to Cheapleys, Limited, or to A. A. Ellisdon, by false representation. The police stated that goods worth about £65,000 were obtained from various firms. About £15,000 worth had been recovered, and the sum of about £3OOO was left in the bank. The goods were sold at half price or less, and some were (pissing. The case was adjourned to February 10. Bail was allowed. The police said that at least a hundred witnesses would be called. [A fortnight’s inquiries by Sydney detectives resulted -in the arrest of five men. The firm with which the men were connected came into existence some months ago, trading on a ninetyday bill system, buying huge quantities of merchandise from warehouses and selling at ridiculously low prices to retailers. The firm has now gone out of existence. The bills fell due at the beginning of December and, according to official statements, were not met.]
