THE RYAN-BRIDSON RACE MANLY: CLUB’S PROTEST Sydney, December 20. At a council meeting of the New South Wales Swimming Association a letter was received from the Manly Club protesting against the swimmer Ryan being matched against Bridson at Auckland the day after he left the boat, where he , had been very sick. A motion that the Australian Swimming Union be censured for failing to prevent the unfair treatment meted out to Ryan and Griffiths in New Zealand was carried unanimously’. CARNIVAL AT TE ARO BATHS. There should be a record attendance at Te Aro Baths this afternoon at the carnival which has been so successfully arranged by the Wellington Centre of the New. Zealand Amateur Swimming Association. Amongst the competitors will be two or Australia’s most prominent swimmers, “Tiger” Ryan and Owen Griffiths. In addition to appearing in handicap events, the Australians will take part in an unofficial Australasian ehampionship over 100 yards, together with I. W. Cameron (Lyall Bay), C. E. Claridge (Maranui), and J. C. Blakeley (Wellington). Already during the tour Griffiths has indicated that he is at the top of his form, and Cameron has been in steady training in view of his departure for ’ Sydney next month. Ryan will be swim-
ruing in an invitation handicap race against Rylands and Rix-Trott (Hutt), and Claridge and Griffiths will be meeting Miss K. Millar, the 220 yards New Zealand ladies’ champion, R. Burns, and J. Blakeley, over 220 yards. A comprehensive programme includes diving competitions, polo matches, and various handicap events.
