THE LANGUAGE OF SEALING-WAX
There is a “language of flowers,” and sentimental messages may be conveyed by the angle and position of a stamp on a letter or postcard. Now Paris has evolved a language of sealing wak. Different colours stand for different messages. Any one who receives a letter with gray sealing wax can be certain that it is from a friend, because giay denotes friendship. White sealing-wax indicates a„marrlage announcement: red, a business letter: green is the colour of hope, and pale green conveys a reproach. Messages of condolence carry a violet hue; a chestnut colour is used for dinner engagements. Light red is reserved for lovers.
