COSTUME RECITAL
PUPILS OB* MISS L. KASTALL. The annual break-up of the pupils of Miss Lottie liasl'all took the form of a costume recital, and was held at St. Annes Hall, Northland, on Wednesday night. There was a very large attendance, the various items being much appreciated by those present. The programme consisted of plays, dialogues, recitations, and musical monologues. The overture anU entr - acte were played by the Felix Orchestra. There were some pretty costumes and the stage and lighting effects were excellent. The programme was as follows: —A garden scene, with recitations by Nancy McDougall, Irene Stanley, Beverley Guise, Isla Steele, Mavis and Gilbert Martin, Joan Evans and Esther Ince; musical monologue, “Rosie’s Relations,” Betty Tilsley; dialogue, “Mother’s Blunder,” Mrs. Horton, Valmal Hildreth; Gladys, Beverley Black; Charite, Iris Hawkins. Play, “Princess and the Swineherd,” in two acts. Act 1, the Hall in the Palace; act 2, Outside the Swineherd’s Hut. The Emperor, Minnie Akel; the Princess, Joan Adams; Lady Margaret,
Betty Plant; the Swineherd, Connie Kelly; Lord Chancellor, Betty Tilsley; page, Owen Good; maids, Mona Perry, Connie Meldon, Dulcie Thomas, Dorothy Good, Joan Gapes, and Lilv Akel. Recitation, "Beyond the Garden Gate,” Betty Plant. Musical monologue. “Christmas Bells.” Connie Kelly. Dialogues, “She was His” and “The Quarrel,” Jean McDougall and Minnie Akel. Recitation, “The Doll’s Wooing,” Iris Hawkins; the fairy, Esther Ince. Recitation, “Bref,” Alison Whyte. The final item, a one-act playlet, "The Wedding of the Painted Doll,” had to be repeated four times before the final curtain, the Felix Orchestra assisting. The following pupils took part:—Red Riding Hood, Mavis Martin; Buster Brown, Betty Plant; Jumping Jack, Connie Kelly; Mamma Doll, Joan Evans; flower girls, Beverley Guise, Isla Steele, and Nancy McDougall; bridesmaids, Joan Adams, Dorothy Good, Dulcie Thomas, Connie Meldon, and Lily Akel; the bride, Mona Perry; page boy, Owen Good; preacher, Minnie Akel; ondegroom, Joan Gapes; best,man, Betty Tilsley; dolls, Esther Ince, Beverley Black, Iris Hawkins, Valmal Hildreth, Irene Stanley, Jean McDougall, Alison Whyte, and Gilbert Martin, . „ Mr. C. Perry was stage manager and Mr. W. Kitchener chairman.
