CONTROL OF TRAFFIC
Wanganui, December 20. In his remarks at the Girls’ CoUegc prize-giving last night, Mr. D. Mela lane said that he hoped early next yeai to invite the audience to the laying ot the foundation-stone of the new .Girls College at 'Wunganni East Sir Apirana Ngata, Minister of Natnc Affairs, proceeded up the river to-day to attend a Maori gathering at Katana. H motored as far as Parakino, and completed the journey on the river. A number of Wanganui Maoris made the trip by steamer, The Hon. Ngata will return to Wanganui to-morrow. _ On Christmas Eve it is the intention of the chief tralfif inspector to exclude all motor traffic in the Avenue from Guyton Street.to Taupo Quay, between 7 p.ni. and 10 p.m. Trams will run in this area, as usual. . Dr. Pettit, of Auckland, was a visitor to the Central Infants’ School to-day, to attend the prize giving. . Mrs. W. A. Veitch presented the prizes at Queen’s Park School. AVanganui, today when Dr. Pettit gave a short address on “Power of Thought.” and the-chil-dren a musical programme. The headmaster, Mr. H. J. Jackson, reporthed that 51. pupils gained proficiency certificates. The prize list was as follows.: —Dux, Form 2. Jessie Tulloch and Warren Massey, equal. Proxjmc nccessit. Phyllis Taylor and Lina Wall,' equal. Form 1, Peggy Taylor, 1; Lorna Mete Kingi, 2; Jean'Cameron. 3. Standard 4, Reginald Hermans, 1; Kivell Aidton, 2; Clarene O’Hara. 3. Standard 3. Bruce Williams. 1 : David Collingwoo’d. 2: Lloyd Cox and Corrie West (equal), 3. Standard 2. Raynor Neal, 1: Kenneth Currin, 2; Eileen Paul, 3. Primary Schools’ champions, Olga Ward and Ron Vinten.
