“NO INFORMATION”

COUNCILLOR McKEEN PROTESTS

When the order paper became exhausted at last night’s meeting of the City Council, mention was made of Councillor R. McKeon’s notice of motion requesting information as to the cost of electricity as purchased from the Government, and generated at the council’s own power-house. Councillor McKeeu apologised for this question having been made the subject of a notice of motion. “It is ridiculous. I know.” he said, “for all such information should be given to councillors, but when I went to the officer concerned I could get no information, and surprise was expressed at my asking for it. Under these circumstances I had to take other means, and will do so through the Press.” The Mayor: But you cannot take that step until the notice of motion is disposed of. The motion, however, was not taken in open council, but after Councillor McKeen’s protest, questions were taken, whereupon the council went into committee.
