ESPERANTO SOCIAL
SEASON'S CONCLUDING EVENT. A "social” which took place last Tuesday night in the Y.M.C.A. marked the last meeting of the season for the "Wellington Esperanto Club. Mr. I-’. C. Jack presided over a largo attendance of members and friends. , The president spoke or the great progress Esperanto was making on the Continent, and of the wonderful simplicity of the language. Mrs. N. Williams pleasingly sang two songs. “Invitation” and "Down Here.” Mr. W. 11. King gave an address in Esperanto on “Decenibro," at the conclusion of which he translated bls remarks into English. Mr. Jack contributed an enjoyable song “Afton Water.” Miss Coralie Smythson, who presented a pianoforte solo, "Shadow Dance.” sang "In My Garden” on recall. Mrs. It. McGuigan gave an enjoyable interpretation of the song “The Laird of Cockpen,” prefacing this vocal number by an explanation of the incidents surrounding the wooing of the Laird. A one act scene entitled “Konnina Tablo,” originally arranged and translated into Esperanto by Mr. V. Leek and Mrs. C. Lock, was capably produced by the two translators with the assistance of Miss L. Leek and M. N. Pelvln. Several musical items from an H.M.V. gramophone were interspersed throughout the programme, and helped the evening to go with a swing. After the supper adjournment in the Y.M.C.A. lounge. Miss Bland recited “The Green Eye of the Little Yellow God” and "Smile." Mrs. N. Williams sang two Negro Spirituals, “Deep River" and "Nobody Knows de Trouble ‘l’ve Seen.” It was announced that the dub would resume its activities early in February for the 1930 season.
