FRISCO MAILS ARRIVE
ONE DAY EARLY The R.M.S. Tahiti arrived at Wellington early yesterday afternoon from San Francisco, via ports—about 18 hours ahead of her time-table. This was due to the fact that a much lighter fruit cargo was offering at Rarotonga than usual, and the vessel was able to leave there at 8 p.m. on Monday, instead of on Tuesday morning, as is customary. Also, by speeding the ship up to 15.5 knots she was able to reach Wellington at 1.40 p.m. yesterday. The vessel’s mails were landed as soon as she berthed at 3.20 p.m. yesterday. This enabled the postal officials to get the whole of the letter mails for Palmerston North and all places on both coasts up to North Auckland away bp the Limited at 7.15 o'clock last evening. The Auckland letters will be available in that city at 9.30 o’clock this morning, making it possible for replies to go forward by the Vancouver mail boat leaving there to-morrow. The letters will be delivered early this morning in Palmerston North and Wanganui. and at New Plymouth and Napier this afternoon.
The postal authorities have received cable advice from Sydney that the Maunganui, which left at 4 p.m. on Friday for Wellington, carries 359 bags of mail from Australia, and 19S parcel receptacles, including 61 from other places.
