SPEEDWAY CONTEST
SPECIAL RACES ARRANGED. It is expected that faster times will be. registered at the Kilbirnie Stadium Speedway to-morrow night, when the events will be decided mainly under rolling start conditions. Nine of the best available riders, including two Australians, have been selected to challenge for the Golden Helmet, the most successful rider to meet the present holder. W. Kilmister. The whole contest, elimination heats and final, should account for stirring competition. Another event of note will be the Silver Gauntlet, being decided for the first time this season, and in this, too. there is bound to be very keen competition for the right to meet the holder. E. Naylor. A first division handicap event is also to be decided. and in this Hie back-markers will be tested to the full. Among the new riders taking part next Saturday is Ranby. the middle-weight champion of the grass track. In this week’s training operations on the track the riders have shown marked improvement, and their times have been particularly good.
