the new headmaster. The Council of the Geelong Church of England Grammar School, Corio, yictoria, have appointed Mr. James Ralph Darling, Oriel College, Oxford and Repton, headmaster of the Geelong Grammar School in succession to the Rev. F. E. Brown, D.D., who is resigning the headmastership. Mr. Dal'ling is senior history master of the sixth form at Charterhouse. He was educated at Repton on the classical side where he was head of the school. Born thirty years ago, he is one of a P e^ lion whose education was affected oy tnc Great War and before he reached Oxford he went into the army and served m France with a commission in the Royal Field Artillery. At the end of the war he went to Oriel (Cecil Rhodes College) and took honours in history. He was a master and house tutor at Merchant Taylor s School, near Gtosby, tor three years. From there he went to Charterhouse, where he has worked as a master from the bottom to the top of the school. He has been a member of the local borough council. Ho has also lectured both m London and locally in connection with the League of Nations, adult schools and the Workers’ Education Scheme. Early this vear he took charge of the English public schools' empire tour to New Zealand and carried it through with marked success and to the satisfaction of Mr. Amery and Hie English education authorities.
