MEETING OF BOARD A meeting of the Wellington College Board of Governors was held ye»lerday afternoon. Mr. W. H. P. Barber presiding. There were also present Messrs. G. Mitehell, F. Holdsworth, G. A. Troup, 11. E. Avery and T. Forsyth. The Minister of Education (Hon. H. Atmore) wrote as follows: “I am in receipt of your letter asking on behalf of the Parents’ Association for a grant of £-100 to enable the pavilion to be removed to a corner of the school grounds and to be used temporarily for pavilion purposes, but later as a janitor’s residence. In reply I have to say that in view of the fact that there is already a caretaker’s cottage in the school grounds I cannot see my way to make a grant of full cost. I will be prepared, however, to consider favourably a £1 for £1 subsidy on local contributions.” Fees, totalling £302. extending over a period of nine years, were written off. Wellington Girls’ College. The principal of the Wellington Girls’ College (Miss V. M. Greig) reported that for the month ending November 22 the average attendance was 93 per cent. The number on the roll was 436 and the number of boarders was 30. Resignations were received from Miss C. M. Sage, M.A., who has accepted a position on the staff of the Avonside Girls’ High School in Christchurch, and Miss C. M. Gillies, who has been recommended for a position in the New Ply mouth, Girls' High School. The board placed on record their appreciation of the two teachers’ services to the college. The school is to have a farewell visit from Their Excellencies the GovernorGeneral and Lady Alice Fergusson on Friday, December 6, at 11.30 a.m. Wellington East Girls’ College. The principal of the Wellington East Girls’ College (Miss A. Batham) reported that for the month of November the roll number was 355. with an average attendance of 93.2 per cent. Miss Margaret Morrison. M.A. joined the staff on Monday, November 18. and Miss Gordon joined the staff of Wellington Girls’ College on the same date. The distribution of prizes will take place on Thursday afternoon. December 12. Miss Batham advised that she would be leaving Sydney for England on March 5 next, and would return to New Zealand through the United States, arriving back in December, 1930.
