TROTTING

FORBURY PARK MEETING

FIELDS REVIEWED

(By

"Overcheck.”)

The spring meeting of the Tor y Park Trotting Club commences to-uay. The fields generally are quite good, ana the club should have a successful gathering. The first race is the

ROSLYN HANDICAP (saddle), of 200 sovs.; 3.45 class (2.30); for unhoppled trotters only. One mile and a halt.

Of the scratch division in the Handicap Avoness and Nancy McKinney are likely to have the largest fo ) lo y,J,?n‘ The former ran second at Methven in October, registering 3.47. Nancy McKinney was third to King’s Voyage and ureas Dillon at New Brighton a little Hater m the same month, registering 3.42 4-o. further back Wah reads well if he ran only be induced to trot solidly. Kitty Patch is generally a reliable horse. Nelson s Prince ran third at Methven when giving Avoness 00 yards; now be only is asked to concede 24 yards. Great Way is unreliable, but Ambition is a young horse of much promise and is solid. She is preferred to Great Way and also those behind her. Most support may be accorded Nancy McKinney, Wah, and Nelson's Prince.

PROGRESSIVE HANDICAP (harness), of 200 sovs.; 3.42 class (2.25). One mile and a half.

In the Progressive Handicap Grand Canyon and Sea Mist are a likely pair on scratch. The former has plenty of speed, but is apt to break. He won over 121 furlongs at Greymouth in 3.42 1-5, so should not have to do his best to run up to his present handicap. Seamist ran second at Methven, recording 3.3 G 2-5. Kate Logan is useful, and at Greymouth was second to Grand Canyon in 3.41 2-5. Ruth Logan is credited with being very speedy, and it is possible that she may trouble Grand Canyon and Sea Mist most. ST. KILDA HANDICAP (saddle), of 225

The St. Kilda Handicap has a pretty open appearance. Dilnon raced pretty well recently, and may go out favourite. Wild Spur, too, races rather well in saddle. Milo Minto has a record of 2.17 1-5, and should now be capable of something better than this. Morning Sun ran second to Wild Spur in a mile and a quarter saddle race at Oamaru, and now meets his conqueror on 24 yards better terms. Rita McKinney is useful, but she may be accounted for by Return Voyage and' Mountain Chimes. The three that may be in strongest demand are Dilnon, Morning Sun, and Return Voyage. SPRING HANDICAP (harness), of 200 sovs.; 3.30 class (2.24). One mile and

In the Spring Handicap Almont Cling, Dice, and Mae Loeanda may prove the best of the front division. The former ran second at Gore, registering 2.59 4-5. Dice was third at Methven, where he went 2.57 2-5. Mac Loeanda won at Methven, and raced well at Wellington recently. Of those further back Sandy Pointer and Wrackecn are preferred. The former was placed at Wellington, while Wrackeen showed good form at Auckland in October, running a mile and a half in 3.29 3-5. Possibly those to catch the judge’s eye will be Dice, Mac Loeanda, and Wrack-

At Addington last month Muriel de Oro was twice first and once second over two miles, her best tigio being the 4.31 she registered when she ran second to Sunshower in the Metropolitan Handicap the second day. Lindbergh, 3Gyds.. Steel All. 24yds., and Travis Axworthy, 48yds.,-were first, third, and fourth respectively in the Victoria Handicap. In that race Lindberg registered 4.33 2-5, and Steel Ail 4.34 3-5. Real Light won the November Handicap in 4.28 3-5, Jolly Pet, conceding 3G yards, being fourth. Jean MeElwyn ran second to Muriel do Oro in the Lyttelton Handicap, when conceding 3G yards, while Jolly Pet, in receipt of 24 yards, was four lengths away third. Jean McElwyn’s time wau 4.31; Talent is not a good two-miler, while Logan Chief is past his best. Maiwhariti went 4.27 1-5 when she ran second to Dilworth in the Courtenay Handicap, while Trampfast went 4.28 3-5 at Oamaru, when Travis Axworthy and Jolly Pet were second and third respectively. As between Vesuvius, Moneyspider, and Author Jinks, tlio former is preferred. In what promises to be a particularly hard race to win, it is possible that Jolly Pet, Real Light, and Travis Axworthy may be seen to most advantage.

DOMINION HANDICAP (harness), of 275 sovs.; 4.4 G class. For unboppled trotters only. Two miles.

In the Dominion Handicap All Peters, Repute, and Dolores are possibilities amongst the scratch division. The latter is probably the speediest, but at times is not too steady. Nelson Ata won over two miles at New Brighton, but both Repute and New Metford should bold him safe. Audobell has done nothing for a long time. Len Wood ran second to Peter Lin in the Governor’s Handicap at Addington, but both may be accounted for by Lazarus, who was second to Boneta at Oamaru, and later won at Addington. Swiftbine lias the speed, but generally gives a mixed display, and much the same applies to Bingen Starr. Probably the public will prefer to rely upon Repute, Dolores, and Lazarus.

CAVERSHAM HANDICAP (harness), of 200 sovs.; 3.30 class. One mile and ahalf.

Lily Harold .. scr Nelson Yoicks scr MeElwyn 3G ■laron Bingen scr The Caversham Handicap contains the .names of a number of good horses, and I anticipate that the winner will need to do better than his or her handicap to win. Cushla d’Or, Eugene de Oro. El Direct, and John Jinks are a strong quartet, on scratch, while Nelson de Oro, Morning Sun, and Nelson MeElwyn have form to recommend them. Cushla d’Or went 3.25 3-5 at New Brighton in October; 151 Direct went 3.24 at Addington in September, while John Jinks ran second to Cushla d’Or at Oamaru in October when conceding 24 yards. Eugene de Oro ran second nt Methven, and was similarly placed at New Brighton, behind Arikitoa. This form reads well, and I am inclined to think that she, John Jinks, and Nelson de Oro may be homo first.

In the Dash Handicap Nelson McElwyn. Lady Cello, Proud Dillon, Orphan, and Dalmeny may be In most demand. The lirst-named is a good sort, and recently won at Gore. Lady Cello won the Methven Cup this year, while last year she won over a mile and a halt in 3.25 2-5. Proud Dillon was second to Great Triumph at Addington In September, registering t.l-*. Orphan was third to Dilworth and Vendome at Addington last month, and D. Withers appears to have him racing more kindly these days. Dalmeny has no recent public form io recommend him, but is a good honest sort. Orphan has his chance, and the two that may cause most trouble may be Nehvn McElwyn and Ludy Cello.
