FIRES
HOMESTEAD DESTROYED. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) Te Awamutu, November 25. Air, L. S., Chamberlain’s six-roomed homestead at Hairini, five miles from Te Awamutu. was totally destroyed by fire early on Sunday morning. Mrs. Chamberlain was awakened by a crash and found the whole building ablaze. She rescued the children, but valuable furniture and furnishings, including old silver and the library, were lost. The motor shed, car, and dairy were also destroyed. The insurances are: Buildings, £600: contents, £500; car, £250; all in the British Traders’ Office. Mr. Chamberlain is at present an inmate of the Rotorua Hospital and underwent a very serious operation last Wednesday. STABLES AT TRENTHAM DAMAGED. A fire broke out at 3 o’clock on Sunday morning last at IT. Kingan’s stables at Trenthani, and resulted in five loose boxes and a men’s whare being totally destroyed, and two loose boxes badly damaged. The insurance covering the buildings was £350, and Mr. Kingan estimates his loss at £(>00.
