LOWER HUTT WATER SUPPLY

REPORT ON ALTERNATIVE SCHEMES The Mayor of Lower Hutt (Sir Alexander Roberts) announced at last night’s meeting of the Lower Hutt Borough Council that one of the most difficult problems that the borough had ever been faced with would require the most careful attention of the council. It was the question of the future water supply for the borough. He pointed out that the borough would be called upon to choose between a gravitaiton scheme, proposed by the Wellington City and Suburban Water Supply Board, and a local scheme for using the artesian supplies in the borough. A full report, dealing with the costs of the respective schemes, will be available to-day or to-morrow. Sir Alexander Roberts asked the councillors to give careful consideration to the facts and figures which would be placed before them, and to give further consideration and discussion at the next meeting of the council.
