Destroyers were sent on Thursday by the Commander-in-Chief on the Mediterranean in search of the British steamer Baron Elcho, wireless messages having been received alleging an attempt to drug or murder the wireless operator. News has since been received by the owners of the Baron Elcho iu Glasgow from their Port Said agent announcing the illness of the wireless operator, And adding that there had been no trouble on board. The London manager of the owners later said that there was reason to believe that the voyage of the Baron Elcho had been uneventful, but that the wireless operator had heen seriously unwell.
MAN REMOVED IN CUSTODY London, November 24. The Baron Elcho’s wireless operator was removed in custody aboard a destroyer which arrives at Malta this evening. The captain, who boarded the Baron Elcho, considered that the search was unnecessary. The wireless operator maintains that everybody was trying to poison him.
