STRANGE PIPES OF SAVAGES. When he wants a smoke the African savage digs a hole, beats down the earth round it, inserts a hollow reed, and lies down to suck in the smoke from tobacco with which he tills the improvised bowl. The Chinese bores two holes in a section of bamboo and makes the simplest of all possible pipes. Eskimos split a willow twig in two, dig out the pith, tie the halves together again with rawhide, and scratch a small bowl at one end. Here in New Zealand the favourite pipe is the bruyers, and Dill's Best is becoming the favourite tobacco to smoke in it There is a fragrant richness and satisfaction about Dill’s Best that makes pipe-smoking exceedingly enjoyable. And this is well—for of all the pleasures man enjoys, pipe-smok-ing costs about the least. —Advt.
