VALUES AT YESTERDAY’S SALE DECLINE IN HIDES At the fortuightly sale of sheepskins, hides and tallow held yesterday by the combined Wellington brokers, good catalogues were offered to the usual attendance of buyers. All grades of hides showed a decline, but sheepskins were in good demand at par to Id. better than last sale. Murray. Roberts and Company, Ltd., report that fair catalogues were offered lo a good attendance of buyers. Sheepskins were somewhat firmer, showing sometimes an advance of id. to per lb. Salted lots wore also in better demand than at previous sale. Tlie market for ox tildes showed practically no change, but cow hides declined sharply, and prices less by id. to Id. per lb. were offered to-day, the bulk of the cows being passed in. Year ling and kip were also rather easier, and calf declined Id. per lb. Levin and Company, Ltd., report as follows:—Hides: As compared with last sale rates, cow were Id. to l*d. lower, mediiMii and heavy ox 1-Sd. to 3-Bd. lower, light ox Id. lower, kip and yearling Id. to lid. lower, best calf on par, others, Id. to 2d. lower. Dry sheepskins met good competition at full late rates. For salted skins late rates were fully maintained. Tallow prices were unchanged. The New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Company. Ltd., who offered a fairsized catalogue to a full bench of buyers, report as follows:— Sheepskins: Competition was very keen for all lots of dry and salted skins, and recent prices were well maintained. Fine wools were in strong demand and prices were from par to id. per lb. better than last sale. Salted skins were also keenly sought after at an advanee of from 3d. to 6tl. per lb. .Hides: The market was very unsteady and in sympathy with Australian and overseas markets, all grades of ox, cow and calf skins showing a decline of from 2d. to Id. per lb. Tallow: Prices were on a par with last Sa Dalgetv and Co., Ltd., report as follows:— Sheepskins: There was excellent competition for all grades and descriptions. prices being well up to late rates for both dry and salted skins. Hides: Our catalogue •comprised a good selection of all grades and weights. The overseas markets-have lately shown a decided drop, and at our sale to-day the inquiry for .all weights was irregular. Cow hides were from Id. to lid. per lb. lower than previous quotations. Light ox Id., while medium and heavies were l-Bd. to 3-8(1. lower. Kip and yearling were dull of sale and declined Id. to lid. per lb. on previous quotations. The best grades of calf were about on a par while seconds were lower by Id. to 2d. Tallow: Prices were unchanged. Wright, Stephenson and Co., Ltd-, in conjunction with Abraham and Williams, Ltd'., report that competition for sheepskins was keen, dry skins showing an advance of about id. per pound tor fine wools and about id. per pound tor second grade skins. Salted skins met with good competition, prices being from 3d. to 6d. per skin higher. The market tor hides is still stagnant and all sorts showed a decline to-day. Ox hides were about id. to id. per pound lower, cow hides id. to Id per pound lower and calfskins about M per pound lower. The tallow market was firm. , The Wairarapa Farmers’ Co-operative Association, Ltd., report that competition, for the most part, lacked animation. Compared with the previous sale full-woolled drv sheepskins were unchanged; shorts and half-wools were a little firmer; salted were unchanged.
