As secretary to Mr. Howard Carter, Mr. Bethell carried out the work of excavating Tutankahamen’s Tomb. He went cheerfully to bed at the Bath Club early yesterday after a game of cards, and later was found dead lying across the bed. The “Daily Mail” points out that he is the tenth person concerned in the work who has died more or less suddenly. The first was Lord Carnarvon, who began the work, and whose death followed a mosquito bite six weeks after he entered the tomb. Last year there were several mysterious fires at Mr. Bethell’s Manchestser Square mansion, which was stocked with treasures brought from the Valley of the Kings. Mr. Bethell’s daughter was named Nefertari, after Tutankhamen’s queen. , •
