Dolores Adios McCord, better known as Adah Isaacs Menken, circus rider, who strove to be a poet. She was the original of Swinburne’s Dolores, and she dedicated her “Infelicia” (1868) to Dickens. Charles Reade was one of her friends. She married "at least four times.”
