The Wanganui Swankers’ Club has gratefully accepted the offer of Mr. and Mrs. C. I. Spillane to organise a sacred concert to raise money for the club’s Christmas cheer fund. It was decided to hold the concert on November 24.

Mrs. Gawith has returned to Masterton from a visit to her daughter, Mrs. Thomson, at Parnell, Auckland. The Misses Marion and Erina Taylee, of Paßiatua. have returned from a short visit to Wellington; Miss M. Yule, of Featherston, is spending a short holiday in Wellington.

Mr. and Mrs. R. E. Maunseli have returned to Masterton from a visit to •England.

Sister E. Alexander, until recently district nurse at Palmerston North, is visiting Wellington prior to going to Gisborne, where she will spend some weeks before taking up Karitane work at Dunedin.

In order to raise funds for improvements to the building, the Hokowhitu golf clubhouse (Palmerston North) was (lie scene of a very large bridge party on Wednesday night, Mr. Martyn Abraham being host. There were about 80 players present and an excellent supper was supplied by the caretaker and his wife, Mr. and Mrs. E. H. Chatfield. , A very enjoyable and representative gathering of the St. Peter’s parishioners- took place at St. Peter’s Hall. Terrace End, on Wednesday night, in honour of Mr. Cyril Robotham and Miss Andrews, who are shortly to be married. The gathering took the form of a gift evening, and many beautiful and useful gifts were received. The Rev. J. C. Abbot, vicar of St. Peter’s, eulogised the many excellent qualities of the young eoqple, who are faithful and earnest workers for the church, choir, club and Sunday school. He wished them every happiness and, prosperity, and God-speed in their married life. Mr. J. Selwyn and Mr. G. G. Priest also paid tributes to Mr. C. Rdbotham’s character. Musical items were given by Mrs. F. McLachlan, Miss Coles and Messrs. A. Stewart. A. R. McKcgg. Robothain brothers, and. a recitation from Muster Holmes. Mrs. C. W. Borreson, Mr. F. McLachlan, and Mr.-11. S. Porteotis were the accompanists. Mr. C. Cater supplied the dance music, and Mr. Lloyd gave an extra. The hall am', supper room were beautifully decorated with marigolds and multi-col-oured streamers by members of the choir, who also served a dainty supper. The presents were deposited in a decorative wheelbarrow, and later in the evening the guests of honour opened the numerous parcels. Mr. 11. S. Porteous was M.C. Visitors from Fitzherbert, FeTlding and outlying districts were present.
