THE TRANSPORT BILL
SELECT COMMITTEE’S REPORT An intimation that the Transport Laws Amendment Bill would be modi,fled by the elimination of contentious ‘clauses was given by the Minister of Transport (Hon. W. A. Veitch), in replying in the House of Representatives on Saturday to an urgent question asked by Mr. J. A. Nash (Reform, Palmerston). Explaining that he had had numerous inquiries from local bodies, Mr. Nash asked the Minister when it was proposed to bring down the Bill. “It is intended to proceed with the Bill this session, but some modification will take place in the direction of eliminating contentious clauses,” replied the Minister. “Details will be made known to the House within a day or two.” Mr. Nash: The Bill will appear next week, then ? The Minister: Yes. In reply to a question by the Leader of the Opposition (Rt. Hon. J. G. Coates), the Acting-Leader ( of the House (Hon. G. W. Forbes) said the report of the Select Committee on the Bill was expected to be presented today.
