UNITED STATES TARIFF BILL
< PRESIDENT’S WISHES IGNORED Australian Press Association. Washington, October 2.
The Senate, by a vote of 47 to 42, approved an amendment sponsored by Senators Simons and Norris and supported by a coalition of insurgent Republicans and Democrats, to strike out the flexible provisions from the pending Tariff Bill and substitute a clause making the Tariff Commission the agency of Congress instead of the President. The action is contrary to President Hoover’s wishes.
