Cyclist Fatally Injured.—Samuel Pryo£, aged 16, a son of Mr. C. A. Pryor, who was knocked off a bicycle by a motor Ibrry at Morrinsville, died from shock (states a Press Association message from Hamilton). He met a lorry driven by C. H. Lewis, a carrier, at a street corner, and was carried some distance oh the bonnet The inquest was formally opened yesterday, and adjourned for a week.
Estate Changes Hands.— A. Blenheim Press Association message states that a property sale of more than ordinary interest, in view of the fact that the property bad been offered to the Government for closer settlement, was completed, when Mr. G. F. Watts, of Lansdowne, purchased, on behalf of Mrs. Watts, the Delta Estate, the property of the late Mr. William Pollard. It is understood the property was acquired as a going concern for about £50,000.
Cows Killed by Stag.—Mr. A. M. Campbell, a farmer occupying land adjacent to Rotorua, on going over his farm yesterday morning, found four cows dead near a water-trough. They had been gored by a stag, all within a fortnight of calving. The carcasses all showed severe horn marks and bruises. The farm lies near the Okareka Reserve, which is much infested by deer.
Saturday Dance Hours.—A condition that in future it will be compulsory for dance halls in Christchurch to close at 11.30 p.m. on Saturdays was decided upon by the City Council on Monday night. This will be incorporated in the licences for halls when they come up for renewal —Press Assn.
Mechanic Found Hanging.— Albert Ernest Powell, aged 52, employed as a mechanic in the Post and Telegraph Department, Auckland, was found dead in the washhouse at his residence hanging from a rafter. He suffered from insomnia. At an inquest a verdict of suicide by hanging was returned. Powell served in the South African War and the Great War.—Press Assn.
